Les Athletes du Vin, Grolleau, Angers, Loire Valley, France, 2021

Organic/Natural

Ahh the Loire, a place full of some of the best grape juice known to man (in my opinion). An area well known for its Sauvignon Blancs from Sancerre and those delicious Muscadets made from Melon de Borgogne.

I’m a big fan of the reds from the Loire also however. Based on many local grape varieties, they often offer extremely good value for money and pair with a variety of different foods also.

The Les Athletes du Vin, Grolleau, Angers, Loire Valley, France, 2021 is made from 100% Grolleau (a local variety). The wine saw carbonic maceration & ferment in stainless steel tanks, followed by ageing for 6 months in concrete. The vines are approx 60 years old, and all harvesting was carried out by hand.

Produced is a wine that is bursting with bright red fruits, and an almost candied like quality to it. It’s fun, playful and super tasty. It has a medium body, ripe tannins and only 11.4% abv - what more could you want?

I purchased this wine on 7th January 2022 from Borough Wines - www.boroughwines.co.uk for £15.00
