DOMAINE JO LANDRON, LE FIEF DU BREIL, MUSCADET SEVRE ET MAINE, LOIRE VALLEY, FRANCE, 2015

A recent “re-discovery” purchased local Natural Wine merchant - Buon Vino - www.buonvino.co.uk from Domaines Landron.

Made from 100% Melon de Bourgogne from the fantastic producer Jo Landron who I had the pleasure of meeting at the Anjou Wine Fair a few years back! I remember a man with a big moustache, full of character and a passion for making world class wines.

This cuvee of his is comes from soils comprised of siliceous clay, quartz-rich orthogneiss bedrock, with the grapes being harvested by hand, then naturally fermented in concrete before aged on its lees (dead yeasts) for 30 months.

The Domaine itself began in 1945, with the estate converting to Organics in 1999 & Biodynamics in 2011. With an intense passion for preserving the land, and vinifying each plot seperately, these are wines of class and distinction.

It’s possible this is the best expression of Muscadet around. Its elegance, and finesse surpasse many others (in my view) with plenty of fresh citric aromas - white grapefruit and this stone fruit character too. Its intense, mineral and full of charm. The yeasty aromas are there, but are intertwined with that intense acidity too. A perfect pairing with some Loch Fyne Oysters and local sea food.
