Patrick Baudouin, 'Bellevue', Savennieres,

Loire Valley, France, 2021

Organic - Certified

What’s not to love about Chenin Blanc. A variety that can show a myriad of styles from bone dry, to sparkling and to sweet. Local to the Loire Valley in France, these wines are known for their intense minerality and freshness.

Patrick Baudouin is a 13 ha domaine based in the Anjou appelation of the Loire Valley. The vines are certified organic, and they are well known for going through very slow fermentation in french oak. This retains the purity of the wines and the ultimate expression of the land from which they come.

The 2021 Savennieres is a deliciously austere wine, with aromas of tart green apples, with hints of wild florals, a high minerality. On the palate the wine is medium bodied, very dry with a chalkiness and high acidity. The oak doesn’t impart a massive amount of flavour, yet gives the wine texture and character.

This is a delicious expression of Chenin, and worth checking out for sure if you want to try something a little different.
